7 x the best pizza in… Rotterdam

Must Try

The number of places for good pizza has been expanding in recent years. With a view to all those cool new pizzerias and the golden oldies, we made a list of our favorite hotspots for pizza in Rotterdam.

‘Cause pizza is not a trend, it’s a way of life…

Eating pizza in Rotterdam

We separate the pizza chaff from the pizza wheat.

1. Old Scuola

Definitely number 1 on this lady’s pizza list. You may know Old Scuola from the pizzas at (food) festivals, but they have also had their permanent establishment in Rotterdam for a number of years. Fortunately, because these pizzas are too delicious not to make available full-time.

The restaurant has a cozy and industrial atmosphere and it smells like… pizza. That is what you do there: eat pizza and drink good wines. Because they know that too. And while you’re there, don’t forget to taste the (homemade) limoncello. You never want anything else.

Address Old Scuola: Achterklooster 1 in Rotterdam

2. Angelo Betti

An indispensable part of the Rotterdam street scene. Angelo Betti is a household name among many Rotterdammers and rightfully so. The pizzaria has about 37 pizzas on the menu, so something for everyone. The restaurant isn’t necessarily the most atmospheric place ever, but that’s exactly what makes the restaurant nice.

Favorite pizza? The Melanzane scores high so far, but we have to admit that we haven’t tasted all the pizzas yet. And delicious: after dinner you can eat a scoop of ice cream. That’s how Angelo Betti once started (1922) .

Address Angelo Betti: Schiekade 6B in Rotterdam

3. Burro e Salvia

Burro e Salvia (Italian for butter and sage) is a small restaurant that can be found on Katendrecht. A restaurant where the pillars of craft, patience, purity and enjoyment are central. You can taste that in the food. The pizzas are well topped, the dough is delicious and the ingredients are locally and organically produced as much as possible.

Unfortunately, they cannot obtain two products locally at Burro e Salvia, including olive oil. To make the tastiest dishes – as an Italian restaurant – olive oil is of vital importance. They get that from Todi in the province of Umbria.

The choice of pizzas is wide with choice for meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans. Always nice.

Address Burro e Salvia: Delistraat 16 in Rotterdam

4. La Pizza

Take a look at La Pizza’s Instagram page and you’ll know you’re going to eat here. Even if you don’t eat pizza (because they have more!). La Pizza started with a branch in the center of the city and soon expanded with another branch.

The pizzas come from a traditional wood-fired brick oven and can be ordered in large or small format (handy!). You will also find delicious antipasi and pasta on the menu. Choose just a pizza night or mix and match all kinds of dishes to create a table full of goodies.

Address La Pizza: Scheepstimmermanslaan 21 and Bentinckplein 3 in Rotterdam

5. O’Pazzo

Where you eat Neapolitan pizza at Old Scuola and Burro e Salvia , O’Pazzo serves thin crust pizzas. Right in the center of Rotterdam in an attractive building and with a lovely terrace, you will certainly not be short of cozy surroundings during your pizza date.

The menu is packed with pizzas and everyone is really thought of in terms of ingredients and toppings. Also nice if you are on the healthy tour or if you eat plant-based: they also have pizzas made from whole wheat dough, gluten-free pizzas and vegan cheese.

Address O’Pazzo: Mariniersweg 90 in Rotterdam

6. Napoli

Restaurant Napoli can be found in a lovely part of Rotterdam (De Meent) and is a real family restaurant. You can eat thin crispy pizzas, baked by Italians and made with fresh ingredients from Italy.

Napoli is also a good choice for wine lovers. On the wine list you will find many wines that come from Italian wineries that the owner has selected himself.

Address Napoli: Meent 81a in Rotterdam

7. The Pit (‘s Gravenzande)

De Pit is a beach bar that can be found at Slag Vlugtenburg in ‘s Gravenzande. A beach bar where you walk barefoot through the shop in your bikini and where that is completely okay. The relaxed ‘surf-vibe’ is what makes the beach club what it is. And the pizzas, because they come in large numbers from the large wood oven in the store.

You can sit down at De Pit itself, but you can also order the pizzas at the bar and eat it on the beach. Favorite pizza is pizza De Pit (how appropriate), but you really can’t go wrong here.

Address De Pit: Battle of Vlugtenburg in ‘s Gravenzande
