This easy basic recipe for winter sauerkraut stew with apple served with smoked sausage is ready in half an hour



 Place the potatoes with water in a large saucepan and bring to the boil. Add the stock cube when it boils and cook the potatoes for about 15 minutes. Heat the sauerkraut together with the cloves in another pan. If you use fresh sauerkraut, heat it for about 20 minutes, with ready-made cooked sauerkraut for a few minutes.

 Peel and dice the apple and add to the sauerkraut for a few more minutes. Drain the potatoes, collect the liquid, and mash finely. Make the puree smooth with the butter and the collected liquid. Remove the cloves from the sauerkraut and add the sauerkraut to the mashed potatoes and stir through. Serve the sauerkraut stew with the hot smoked sausage or serve a vegetarian burger or sausage with this stew.
