This steak sandwich from Indulgence looks so awesome that we had to share the recipe with you. Do try this at home!
For 1 huge bun:
- 2 medium sweet onions
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- Olive oil
- Balsamic vinegar
- 250 grams cherry tomatoes, halved
- Sea salt and black pepper
- A big steak
- 2-4 slices Gruyere cheese
- Green pesto
- 1 ciabatta sandwich, toasted
Cut the onions into thin rings. Melt olive oil and butter in a pan over medium heat, add the onion rings and let the onion slowly soften and golden brown. Lower the heat and bake for at least 30 to 40 minutes until nicely caramelized. Stir occasionally with a wooden spoon. Add some balsamic vinegar at the end and fry briefly. You can also do this the day before!
Place the halved cherry tomatoes on a baking tray with baking paper and roast at 160 degrees for 40 minutes. Let it cool down a bit.
Make sure your steak is at room temperature. Season generously with salt and pepper and fry in a frying pan or grill pan in some olive oil, until your desired doneness. Let it rest outside the pan for a while before slicing it. Then cut the meat into nice thin slices.
Cut the bun horizontally and toast both sides equally. Spread the bottom half with green pesto and top with the steak slices and Gruyère cheese. Place this topped bottom half under a hot grill for 1 to 3 minutes, so that the cheese melts.
Remove and top the bun with the roasted tomatoes, caramelized onions and the other half of the bun.
