It’s always a shame, isn’t it, when there’s a mountain of fries left over after dinner? More often than not, we throw them straight into the trash (recognizable?). That’s why we thought it was time for a little research: how do you reheat fries?
We’ll be honest: fries are always best fresh. Our best tip is therefore not to be overconfident and to order or prepare a realistic portion of fries (instead of standard all-time too many). The frying fat in fries makes you feel full faster than with non-fried food. Taking this into account is the first step against food waste.
Reheat fries: this is how you do it
Are you stuck with cliques? Then there are a number of ways to reheat fries. What we can already say is: do not use the microwave under any circumstances , it will do absolutely nothing good for your fries. What is?
Fry fries in the pan
Use a cast iron pan and heat a layer of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Fry the leftover fries for a few minutes. The Americans also call this method ‘ shallow fry ‘: a quick way of frying something in a small layer of oil. Perfect for crisping fries that have been fried before.
Make sure you don’t put too many fries in the pan at once. If necessary, work in portions. Let the fries – before you serve them – also drain on a sheet of kitchen paper.
Reheat fries in the oven
Preheat the oven to 225 degrees. Place a sheet of baking paper on a baking tray and place the empty baking tray in the warm oven for fifteen minutes, so that it heats up well. Carefully remove from the oven and spread the fries on the hot baking sheet.
Place in the hot oven for 5 minutes. Check whether the fries are already crispy enough and put them in the oven for a few more minutes if necessary.
Reheat fries in the air fryer
You can easily give fries a second life the next day by frying the fries for a few minutes at 200 degrees in the airfryer.
This does not only apply to fries, but also to bitterballen, chicken wings, cheese sticks and so on. You get it.
Finally, we give one last tip, one in the form of a recipe. After all, with leftover fries you can make delicious loaded fries, where it is not so important that the fries are extremely crunchy. The concept of loaded fries is that you load your fries with toppings, such as with these Culy fries sabich or with these bánh mì sweet potato fries (the Vietnamese way!). Nice idea huh? We thought too.
