If you are going to bake chocolate chip cookies, then you probably have an image in mind of beautiful round cookies of the same size coming out of the oven. The stark reality is that they don’t look so picture perfect after baking . But there is something to be done about that: with this simple tip you will always get perfectly round chocolate chip cookies!
To bake cookies
We all want to bake perfectly round chocolate chip cookies. But they hardly ever come out of the oven evenly.
British food blogger Erin Clarkson of Cloudy Kitchen has come up with a simple ‘technique’ for this that she calls scooting . That’s difficult to translate, but what it comes down to is that you gently round the edges of the cookies. If the cookies are still warm from the oven, they are still pliable.
For example, we sometimes helped them a little with a knife, for example if they had spread during baking in the warm oven.
The tip for round chocolate chip cookies
This is how it works: you take a round cookie cutter or, for example, a bowl that is slightly larger than the cookies. Place it over the still warm cookies as they come out of the oven. Make circular movements so that the edges of the cookies are nicely rounded. C’est ca!
This handy baking tip works for multiple types of cookies. As long as it’s a soft cookie, you can use it, says Erin. In the video below you can see exactly how to do it.
Use an ice cream scoop
What also helps, by the way, is if you divide the dough for your cookies in advance into portions using an ice cream scoop. This way you automatically divide the dough into cookies of equal size. So they will also bake evenly.
Use an ice cream tong with a squeeze mechanism, so that the dough comes out easily.
And you know it: cookie dough is best always cooled before baking!
