It’s no secret that our love for waffles is great. However, making waffles yourself is not a job that we always have energy for. Making that dough, finding your waffle iron in the back corners of your kitchen cupboard, baking, exercising patience… We prefer to save it for those lazy weekend days when nothing has to be done and everything is possible. Though that’s actually all a thing of the past with this trick, which shows how easy it can be. In principle, you can make waffles with only one (!) ingredient.
Yes, you read that right. We couldn’t believe it either, but a video from TheKitchn provided proof.
Waffles with one ingredient
We see you thinking: what the hell could that ingredient be? Flour, eggs, sugar? Nope, the magic ingredient we’re talking about here is puff pastry.
If you thaw square sheets of puff pastry overnight in the fridge, you can easily cut them into the desired size the next day and bake them in your waffle iron for five minutes. Yes: it really is that easy. The result is waffles that surprisingly look the same as the waffles you know.

And the taste? We haven’t tasted them ourselves yet, but The Kitchn promises that the puff pastry waffles are crispy and buttery with a soft inside. Due to the puff pastry, the waffles will of course also be slightly crumbly, which we personally only see as an advantage.
And after that? Invest with your favorite toppings. The combination of a knob of salted butter and some maple syrup is always delicious, especially with a slice of bacon on top. Or go wild and use the puff pastry waffles as the basis for this editor’s favorite Vietnamese Bánh mì waffle with pork belly .
But the biggest advantage? Maybe that’s the dishes you don’t have – for once.
