7 x hotspots in Bos & Lommer (BoLo!) Amsterdam

Must Try

With the ever-charming Jordaan, the bustling Pijp and the hip Amsterdam-North, you might not stand out as a humble Bos & Lommer. Yet BoLo is not inferior to the aforementioned popular districts of our capital. After all, the neighborhood is gaining more and more new hotspots over the years and therefore has more to offer than you might think at first glance. Also on a culinary level.

It is therefore time for a list of the best hotspots in Bos & Lommer.it

7 x hotspots in Bos & Lommer

Pastry Rijkhoff

Dangerous situation: Culy’s Winnie lived practically next door to Patisserie Rijkhoff for a while. Now, sweets are normally not necessarily her greatest weakness (she needs plenty of others…), were it not for the fact that Rijkhoff might have the very best pastries in Amsterdam in the shop window.

Cherry pistachio tarts for example, or pecan pie. Or slippers with lemon meringue. Also nice: two buildings away, Rijkhoff has a delicatessen with a small selection of cheese, charcuterie, wine and nuts.

Qahve

You always win our attention with good coffee. In that respect, Qahve is a new addition to BoLo. A coffee bar with its own roasted beans has an advantage anyway, especially if there are also fine sweets available.

Turkish influences are clearly present, showing up in various aspects of the menu (nice!): from Turkish coffee to toasted sandwiches with sucuk or tahini cake.

MasMais

Last summer, MasMais not only put Bos & Lommer but also the Amsterdam taco scene on the map. Because in addition to things like Coba and Bacalar , they also take tacos very seriously at MasMais. We saw this with our own eyes when we were allowed to take a look in the basement of the restaurant, where an impressive machine produces the base (‘masa’) for their homemade corn tortillas; something very few European taco shops do.

Those tacos, in turn, are filled with well-considered goodies ( salsa macha ! Chicharrón ! Mole !). The fact that the map is rather limited indicates a quality over quantity philosophy. Cool: MasMais sporadically joins forces with other Amsterdam entrepreneurs such as Sjefietshe or the Japanese Osaka Ball . Keeping an eye on their socials is the message.

Bureau Wine/Cheese Neighbor

A good wine shop is always nice, especially in a neighborhood like Bos en Lommer. Bureau Wijn filled a gap a few years ago by being the first point of sale with more unique (natural) wines in BoLo.

Since a few months, this wine hotspot has had a sister, in the same building: Kaasbuur. Just like the wines from Bureau Wijn, the cheese from Kaasbuur far exceeds supermarket quality. A golden duo, those two.

Chez Miné

Pizzeria Het Wilde Westen made way some time ago for a new concept at the Bos en Lommerplantsoen: Chez Miné. The atmosphere is still just as young and brash, the menu a bit different.

Yet pizza is again the main focus at Chez Miné, with the one with ‘nduja and the one with mushroom ricotta being our personal favourites. Tip: before you tackle your pizza, order some polenta fries (divine), preferably accompanied by a bottle of Piquette .

FUKU

The long lines in front of the door during the lockdown provided proof: FUKU’s home roasted coffee provides a moment of happiness even in difficult times. Not surprising when you know that barista Lex Wenneker has several international barista awards to his name. So world-class coffee, what more could we want?

Abbey

True fact: at Abbey you always stick around longer than you planned. It’s all about that golden combination of exceptionally good service and a cook who knows what’s right.

Nothing too exciting or unnecessarily crazy, but a fresh card where everyone finds something to their liking. Also not unimportant: in summer Abbey houses one of the most pleasant terraces in the neighbourhood. That alone makes it one of the best hotspots in Bos & Lommer, trust us.
