Cola is the mysterious drink that used to be used as medicine. The taste is typical and indescribable. Maybe that’s why every counterfeit idea so far has ended in a flop? Because how do you get that specific taste? Only ‘Mr. Coke’ knows that. Or not…?
There is a trend on TikTok with ‘healthy’ cola, made from balsamic vinegar with sparkling water. Culy put this cola trend to the test.
‘Healthy cola’: sparkling water with balsamic vinegar
Culy’s Martine put it to the test and researched the new ‘healthy’ cola trend. Turns out, when you mix balsamic vinegar with sparkling water or soda, you’d have a health hype in a glass. An American Sporty Spice got this recipe from her Pilates instructor and claims to have been drinking it this way for two years. Then it must be good… right?
By now, there have been plenty of foodies who have tried the TikTok cola. Because everyone wants healthy cola (and therefore without sugar cubes and mysterious ingredients).
One adds a balsamic glaze — that syrupy syrup that often pops up in the grocery store around the holidays — along with a seltzer . Another uses real balsamic vinegar with sparkling water and the variations are already endless. Because what else can you do if the ‘healthy’ cola recipe is not acceptable? Then you look for a better alternative.
Taste healthy cola
After checking several recipes – plus the reactions – it turns out that it just depends on how your taste buds sit on your tongue. Everyone swears by other healthy cola recipes. And so there was only one thing for us to do: taste everything.
Balsamic vinegar with spa red? Don’t start. Balsamic vinegar with a seltzer? Do not do it. Balsamic vinegar with cassis? Great to do. But then you have soda with balsamic vinegar… Then pour us regular cola.
Balsamic syrup with spa red? Foreign. It leans a bit like chinotto, the bitter Italian version of the cola, but a version that has been on supermarket shelves for too long. Balsamic syrup with seltzer? Also a weak infusion of a chinotto and therefore drinkable, but you really have to love it and be in the mood for it. Balsamic syrup with cassis? Same story as above: just pour us regular cola.
Make your own Coke
Have you become curious about making your own cola? Culy editor-in-chief Nancy previously invented Columbus’ egg when it comes to making Coke yourself. And, a bonus, no balsamic vinegar or syrup is involved! You can find the recipe here .
