Homemade gooseberry jam

Gooseberries are still rarely grown in the Netherlands (a lot more at our neighbors in Belgium), but are ideal for making jam . This recipe from the Es’ Factory blog uses red gooseberries, but any other variety will work just as well. 

  • 500 grams of gooseberries
  • 300 grams of granulated sugar
  • 100 grams of jelly sugar
  • 50 milliliters of water

Can’t find gooseberries? Then use kiwis because of the sweet and sour taste.

Make your own gooseberry jam

Place the gooseberries with the water in a large saucepan and bring to the boil. Boil the berries until they are broken, then add the sugar. Cook for another four minutes.

Transfer the jam into sterilized  screw-top jars, turn upside down for five minutes and invert. Let the jam cool.

Store the jars unopened in a cool and dark place and opened in the refrigerator.
