News, food post & hotspots – January 2021

Must Try

We are already in 2021 and I look back on the month of January in this blog! About the lockdown but also about fun things, new recipes and products!

Let me first briefly look back on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, which were very quiet as expected. We played games with our niece and nephew in pajamas, ate donuts and drink champagne.

Although I think everyone was happy that we could leave 2020 behind us, there was not much better waiting in early 2021, the lockdown was extended and tightened. This is hard on everyone and I also try to stay positive and look forward to fun things. Going out for a nice meal, on vacation and a cozy barbecue in the garden with family or friends. And I cuddle a lot with Payo 🙂

Although I don’t really have good intentions, I do try to eat responsibly. And when I’m really hungry, I enjoy a rice cake with peanut butter and banana.

Or a delicious lunch of toast with avocado, fried egg and mushrooms. A really nice combination!

I gifted myself a subscription from Bloomon this year, every 2 weeks you get a new bunch of flowers sent home. And that makes it just that little bit more fun at home.

I think the whole of the Netherlands has gone for a walk, because that is very healthy and you still get out of the house for a while. Anyway, I walk 3 times a day with our dog Payo, but now I enjoy it extra, only when it rains a little less.

In addition to the many healthy recipes viewed in January on our site, baking recipes were also popular. I think baking was a very popular activity, especially when schools were still closed. And also for myself, I have made a lot of goodies such as a butter cake with apple, stroopwafel cake and monchou truffles. You can expect these recipes online soon.

Sometimes something went wrong. I made phyllo dough rolls but they all burst open in the oven. So I’m going to make that one again.

One of the New Year’s resolutions (which I’ve been sticking to for a few months) is running. I try to run 2 or 3 times a week. I am getting more and more into a flow and discover beautiful new pieces of nature in our neighbourhood.

January 30th was National Croissant Day and that’s why I made a delicious recipe with Crisp’s croissants. Because they are really delicious! I topped them with cream cheese, fruit and hazelnut spread!

I baked croquettes, they turned out very well! The recipe will be online soon because they have a very special filling.

Just because there are no more events, doesn’t mean it can’t be done online. Together with my brother-in-law I attended a cocktail workshop of the non-alcoholic spirit brand Seedlip. We made 4 cocktails which were really really tasty. Especially the ones with grapefruit juice, lemon juice, Seedlip, sugar syrup and star anise.

I also got a very nice and tasty food post to try. An extensive coffee package from Coffeemeister, at this webshop you can easily order your coffee online. From ground to beans and cups and very affordable. With the code: ‘LEUKERECEPTEN2021’ you also get a 10% discount on your order!

The month of January was of course dominated by dry January, which is why I received a box of non-alcoholic wines from Vinobox. I have now tested 2 and they were very tasty, although you can slightly taste that they are alcohol-free, that doesn’t make them any less tasty for me.

Just Payo got food mail! He’s a real influencer dog now haha. Edgar and Cooper gave him kibble, snacks and wet food. And they donate 10% of their profits to a charity in Sri Lanka. Payo is very happy with this post!

Tony Chocolonely came up with a very special package. Namely 4 lookalike chocolate bars to draw attention to the fact that many chocolate brands still use cocoa beans from farmers who do not get a fair price, resulting in modern slavery. And these bars are available at AH, Bijenkorf and Marqt, among others.
