First of all: best wishes for 2019! Wow, things went so fast at the end of the year. The weeks before Christmas were very busy with the preparations of new Christmas recipes and collaborations. That’s why I’m taking it a bit easier now and I’m trying to put less pressure on myself because I’m very good at that. This is immediately my New Year’s resolution for 2019: more rest and balance. Hopefully this will work too 🙂
First I will briefly tell you about our holidays. Christmas Day we went to Eric’s family. That was very nice together with our little nephew and niece. Every year everyone provides 1 course of the Christmas menu. I made a pavlova with chocolate mousse for dessert and Eric’s mother made the main course with my salmon with almond crust and Eric’s brother and wife served a delicious soup and spaghetti with truffle as a starter. We had a great meal!
Boxing day we always go to Christmas brunch with my family. We always do this in a restaurant and that is also relaxed. No stress and lots of choice. My brother and his wife were also there all the way from Berlin. You can read some nice news about this further in this blog. For dessert there was a large ice cream cake with burnt protein foam.
So I didn’t have to put in a lot of effort in the kitchen at Christmas. But to be honest, I was already a bit done with that because I had been preparing Christmas recipes for weeks on LeukRecepten. And you have watched them en masse, this year we achieved a new record of no fewer than 132,000 unique visitors in 1 day! How bizarre is this! Really great fun to see. And I hope you all had a nice and happy holidays.
2018 was a very nice and good year. I have to rethink what exactly happened. It all goes so fast. Fortunately, I share a monthly overview on the site (this will be called News, foodpost & hotspots from now on) and I can take a peek haha. Here are a few highlights:
LeukRecepten magazine 2
At the beginning of 2018, the second LeukRecepten magazine was published. I was of course very proud of this and it had become very beautiful again. I regularly get the question whether the first or second magazine is still for sale, but unfortunately they are all sold out in the online webshop and are no longer in stores. You can read more about whether there will be a third edition this year in my plans for 2019 in this blog.
Cyprus press trip
We went on a real press trip to Cyprus for the first time . Here we discovered Cypriot cuisine and that was really cool to experience. Together with a number of other bloggers, we tasted various local products, wines and participated in various cooking workshops.
Introduction to new products, brands and people
I am often the first to receive new products to test and write about them. This is of course super fun! Last year I also received many delicious products to taste, as well as new cookbooks and a Big Green Egg! I can’t wait for the sun to shine and we can barbecue and cook outside again. I also discovered a lot of new hotspots, especially in my own town Eindhoven. It is growing really fast, especially in the hospitality industry, which I can only applaud. I share all of these in my monthly overviews and often also in my newsletter. I also with some nice new people with whom I still have regular contact.
In the newspaper
At the end of the year I had my head in the newspaper for a while! In December, for example, we featured a recipe in the AD every Saturday and there was a spread in the Metro with a lot of our Christmas recipes. I received a lot of nice reactions to this and hopefully the whole of the Netherlands has now become acquainted with LeukRecepten 😉
What are the plans for 2019?
There are already a lot of fun things planned for 2019, both with the site and privately. Below I will share some of them with you:
New challenge for Eric
Eric stopped his job as a graphic designer and web designer on January 1, 2019, and to celebrate we went for a bite to eat at Welp. He worked 4 days a week at a publishing house (with which we also published the LeukRecepten magazine) and is now going to start his own business. Eric has always been very busy developing himself, both during his job and with LeukRecepten, with photography, web design, social media and marketing. We also regularly receive questions such as; how do I apply social media for my company, how do you show up better in Google and how do you take beautiful photos, etc. And Eric now also wants to share this knowledge and help (starting) entrepreneurs with these kinds of things. In addition, Eric will also continue to work for LeukRecepten, and now that he is no longer bound to fixed working days, this will also become easier. And then the question I often get: does it go well if you work together and are together so much? Yes, Eric and I have also worked together at the publishing house for a number of years and of course we are completely attuned with LeukRecepten. It might take some getting used to at first, but I’m sure it will work out. We complement each other well.
I’m going to be an aunt again!
More great news! I will be an aunt in 2019, and not of 1 but of 2 girls. My younger brother and his wife are having twins. So twice as much fun. If all goes well they will be born in March. At the end of December we held a baby shower where I made pink cupcakes, among other things. I will not see this new family every week or month because my brother and sister-in-law live in Berlin, but I will definitely visit them soon to go on a maternity visit.
Will there be another funRecipes magazine in 2019?
I have often been asked this question, but unfortunately I have to say that there will be no new magazine this year. Despite all the super positive reactions and good sales figures (2018 even better than in 2017), we decided not to make a new song. This year we want to focus on our new website and the online part (see next paragraph). But I would also secretly love to make another book. There are no concrete plans for that yet, but I hope that these will become clearer during 2019.
Renewed website + sneak peek
We’ve been working behind the scenes for a few months now with a renewed leukerecepten.nl. First we listed all our wishes and yours, which we collected through the survey, and made a design from there. The mobile version in particular will receive an update so that it is easier to log in and go to your saved recipes, for example. The design is also a bit sleeker and more modern. The design phase has now been completed and the technical realization will start shortly. Hopefully it will be live within 2 months. I am very curious what you will think of it.
Of course I will continue to inspire you every day in 2019 with new recipes and blogs. I still have a lot of recipes ready and my list of new ideas is getting longer rather than shorter so there is no shortage of inspiration. And Jaimy is also there twice a month to help me with cooking and blogging. In the business area I also hope that nice collaborations are planned again. I like to see that we have been working with a number of brands for several years in a row. This way you build a strong bond and make even nicer articles and recipes. For example, we made a recipe booklet for Knorr and we made several tasty recipes for Celavita, Hak and Hero, among others.
There are no major changes planned in the private area. We have been living in our house for almost 2 years now, where we live very nicely with a space for a photo studio and office. We can certainly move forward with this for the time being. We also haven’t booked any holidays for the new year yet. Iceland is high on our list and we would like to go somewhere by car so that our dog Payo can come along. Maybe to Switzerland or France. we will see 🙂
I hope 2019 has many beautiful things in store for you too and I want to thank you for all your visits to LeukRecepten and nice comments on my Facebook page , Pinterest and Instagram. Happy New Year!
