1 roll of fresh puff pastry (or 6 small slices of puff pastry)
About 100 g raw ham
About 100 g grated (old) cheese
1 tablespoon evaporated milk
pinch of pepper
pinch of oregano
Baking tray with baking paper
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees. Divide the slices of raw ham over the puff pastry. Sprinkle with cheese, pepper and oregano. Roll up the dough firmly from the long side to the middle. Turn over and roll the other side to the middle as well. Brush the top with coffee milk. Place the roll in the freezer for about 20 minutes to set or in the fridge for 1 hour. Then cut the roll into thin slices with a sharp knife and place on the baking tray lined with baking paper. Bake them for about 15 minutes until golden brown and then let them cool. The cheese butterflies become less crispy the longer you store them, so it is best to eat them on the same day.
For a vegetarian version, omit the ham.
