These tasty bananas in a sweet and crispy jacket are called Pisang goreng in Indonesia, which means fried banana and are a tasty snack.

 Mix the flour with the flour, salt and vanilla sugar. Add the egg and mix together. Gradually add the water and beat with a whisk until smooth.

 Put the oil in a pan, so much that the bananas are just covered when you put them in. Heat the oil to about 180 degrees. Bubbles should form if you put a piece of bread or banana with batter in it.

 Cut the bananas in half lengthwise and cut into about 6 pieces in total. Pass the pieces through the batter. Use 2 forks to remove the bananas from the batter and fry them for 3 to 4 minutes until they are nicely browned. Don’t put too much in the pan at once. Remove them from the pan and drain on a piece of kitchen paper.

 Sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.

 Tip: you can also cut the bananas into thick slices. My Indian mother-in-law always serves cubes of young cheese with the pisang goreng.
