A good example is this delicious salmon ragout that I made with ingredients from Aldi . They have good quality products at a good price. For example, I bought these luxury pie trays, they are really crunchy and mega large (so a lot of filling!). And the fresh salmon was also beautiful in color and structure.

Ragu is often made with chicken or mushrooms, but replacing it with fresh salmon takes these patties to the next level. And it’s something different and surprising. I spent less than 8 euros for the ingredients, which is nice and affordable food.

The pie cups are quite large, so after 2 well-filled bowls I was full, so that means that you don’t have to pay 2 euros per person with this recipe. You can also keep 1 pie tray per person as a starter or serve it with a salad.

Recipe pies with salmon ragout

8 pieces

Ingredients

2 packs of 4 pie shells
280 g fresh salmon
1 stock cube garden herbs
60 g flour
50 g butter
Parsley (fresh or dried)
2 shallots
100 ml whipped cream
75 g finely chopped leek or soup vegetables
Salt and pepper

Preparation

Bake the pie shells in the oven according to the package. Melt the butter in a pan. Add the chopped shallots and sauté briefly. Then stir in the flour with a whisk. Let this mixture (roux) cook for 2 to 3 minutes. In the meantime, dissolve the stock cube in 500 ml of boiling water.

Gradually pour the stock into the roux and stir with a whisk until smooth. Stir in the whipped cream. Remove the skin from the salmon and cut into small cubes and add them to the ragout together with the parsley and leek or soup vegetables. Let it simmer for another 5 minutes until the salmon is cooked. Taste to see if a pinch of salt or pepper is needed.

Tip: you can also make the ragout a day in advance and keep it in the fridge. Then all you have to do is bake the pies and heat the ragout.
