Making Baguettes

Must Try

An easy recipe to bake a delicious fresh baguette yourself, delicious with some herb butter or for lunch

Add the yeast to the water and mix together. Put the flour and salt in a bowl and then add the water-yeast mixture and mix with a mixer with dough hooks for about 5 minutes to form a dough.
Remove the dough from the bowl and dust a work surface with a little flour. Knead the dough further with your hands. Also about 5 minutes. In total you mix and knead the dough for about 10 minutes. The dough will feel a little sticky at first, but the longer you mix and knead it will become smoother and less sticky.
Grease a bowl with a little oil. Shape the dough into a ball and place in the bowl. Cover with a slightly damp tea towel or cling film. Let the dough rise for about 1 hour in a warm place, preferably between 25 and 35 degrees, until it has approximately doubled.
Remove the dough from the bowl and divide into 2 equal pieces and form a ball. Roll this out into 2 rectangles or approx. 30 cm and then roll them up firmly. Place them in the baguette baking tin or if you don’t have one on a piece of baking paper and make sure there is enough space between them. Let the baguettes rise for an hour under a slightly damp cloth or foil.
Heat the oven to 220 degrees, put a bowl with water on the bottom, this keeps the air in the oven moist, which ensures a crispy result. Cut a few slits on the top of the rolling pins with a knife. Sprinkle or dust the bread lightly with water and bake for about 20 to 25 minutes until cooked and golden brown. Then let them cool.
Tips: after 1 or 2 days you can briefly reheat the bread in the oven. You can also freeze the loaves in airtight bags after baking.
These baguettes are delicious with this homemade herb butter .
